Audience Analysis

  1. Audience analysis involves identifying the audience and adapting a presentation in line with their level of understanding, attitudes and beliets.
  2. Taking an audience-centered approach is important because a presenter’s effectiveness improves if the presentation is delivered in an appropriate manner.
  3. Audiences are concerned about their own Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)

Types of Audience

  1. Conservative Audience – is quiet and usually doesn’t interrupt & and waits for the Q&A session to pose questions. They are generally quiet.
  2. Moderate Audience – is active and usually interrupts the presenter but they do it politely and & and waits for the Q&A session to most of the questions pose questions. They are generally more outspoken.
  3. Energetic Audience – is usually challenging and combative and they want straightforward answers. They are more than willing to stop your presentation if they do not understand or agree with your analysis.

Questions to Analyse the Audience

Are they conservative, moderate or energetic?
Who is the decision maker?
Who is the key recommender?
What do they already know?
What keeps them up at night?
How can you solve their problem?
What can you show, do or say to reach them?
How might they resist?
Whose opinion among the audience does the majority respect?
Will they be receptive or hostile to the proposal?
